I love the Shadow/Striaton Triad theory, but I didn't think it would ever be confirmed or denied by any kind of canon. It made a fun conspiracy theory, and there was no hard evidence to prove it or shoot it down, so i figured it would remain that way unless Grey changed something.
Still, I doubt this is just a chance happening. It seems that the Shadow Triad may indeed by the Striaton gym leaders, at least in Special. Whether the games expand upon it remains to be seen.
